Trip to BKK 2012 - Day One

This is my first trip to Bangkok, Thailand.

Booked the package with Apple Holidays.
Traveling with Tiger Airways and staying in P2 Boutique Hotel.
3D2N for $318 via online deals.

Woke up at 4am to prepare.
Took a cab there and the first unpleasant thing happened. ):!
The cabbie NETS machine broke down and we did not have SGD with us.

Wasted a bit of time here and there and finally managed to check in on time.

Went to have big mac for breakfast.

What beats starting the day with an awesome breakfast? (:
Everything went well and we boarded the plane that took around 3 hours to reach BKK.

Lucky us got the seats at the emergency exit.
Therefore, extra leg space!!!
Woohoo~ ^^

Reached there and had a hard time looking for our tour guild.
This is the part where I want to rant about.

FUCKING bus is late, we waited more than an hour for it to reach.
The FUCKING tour guild demand us to give her 100 baht each for her tour package.
We told her we are not interested in any tour as we opted for FREE and EASY.

And she say we have to give it to her anyway. -_-"
She didn't helped us at all. Not a single shit was done by her.
Although it is just a mere $8, but it's totally a waste to me.
I just hate it when people force me into doing something. Ccb.

Traffic jammed, we spent more than an hour to reach the hotel.
Thank God the bus driver is a nice guy that speaks Chinese.

We were too early for check in time, but there are room that were ready.
So we got to check in early.
The con is our room is located at level 7, but the lift only reach level 6.
We were ok with climbing the stairs, but we came to regret it later on.
More on that later.

The staffs are friendly although they can't speak fluent English and they had a hard time trying to explain to us about something we cannot understand. Lol.

Settled down and wash up.
Found a lot of ants in every part of the room.
And there is a spider making web on the pillow.

I wondered when is the last time someone occupied that room.
No biggie, P killed the spider but i don't feel like sleeping on the pillow.

And finally, the start of day one!
Met a kind lady named May on our way out.
We assumed she is the owner of the hotel.

She was friendly and Chinese speaking.
Told us about the to do and not to do in BKK.
And the way around with a map.

The map really helped us big time during the trip.
We didn't hop onto any of the transport.
We went to all the places by foot. Cool hor?

P was quite fascinated with their shops.
Most of the shop sells random stuffs from underwear to shoes and food.
ALL in one shop. A bit O.o

Typical tourist MUST TAKE PHOTO place. LOL.

Our first stop is platinum fashion mall, mother of all shopping centers.
I spent the whole of my day one inside this mall. Hahaha.

Had lunch inside the mall too.
Decided to just grab anything in the food court and continue with where I left off.

You are supposed to top up a card and use it to buy food.
Quite cool but if you overspent, you had to go all the way to the counter to top up your card again.
Very troublesome as the queues were quite long.

This sucks. Some pork stuffs with all skin and fats.
No meat at all. Very salty and oily. Not recommended to even try.

Shark fin soup. O.O
Seriously, the shark fins are mad huge and there were like 7-8 pieces inside.
The soup was awesome and it cost only $7!!!!
Cheap or cheap?!

And we had this overpriced mango sticky rice.
Cost $4+, they overcharged us as it is not the price on the board.
What the fuck is this shit? -.-

Honestly land of smiles? NAH.
More like land of scams. _l_

After we recharged we continue to shop like mad.
As the mall is a wholesale mall, you will tend to buy more because you'll get the things cheaper.
The only things I bought there were clothes.

Other stuffs are overpriced. Seriously.
$16 for a ring? You must be fucking kidding me.

After awhile we were hungry again thus we to have lunch at Mac.

Ordered a set like this for $10.
Honestly food is not really cheap, clothes either.
I don't understand why people will enjoying going there.

I don't really want to go back there again. :/
Okay maybe the street foods were cheap but it looks pretty..you know..unhealthy for my stomach?

We went back to shop and bought a new luggage so poor P does not have to carry anything.
It was my most expensive buy for the trip but seriously worth it.

The mall closes at 7pm and we walked back to the hotel.
Bought dinner at a chicken rice shop which look cleaner.

The chicken is not nice and the sauce taste weird but addicting.
I finished everything.

Bought snacks and instant noodles from 7-11.
Fell in love with the instant creamy tom yam shrimp noodle. O.O
The brand is MAMA if you're interested to give it a try.

P's loot, office wears, tee shirts, shoes and tie.

And mine is like 2/3 times more.
Average spending on each clothing is $6-$7.
Shoe is $5.
My cute luggage is $80. Managed to bargain till $72.

My legs are killing me thus I chose the in-house leg massaging service.
It was twice the price as compared to outside(160 baht) but I don't really want to leave my hotel.
And the price is still reasonable.
Cost me 300 baht and I gave 20 baht as tips.

Lady was nice and the massage was mad awesome.
My legs felt as good as new after the massage. :')

After the massage we turned in early for we had a really long day.

A good piece of advice after my Day one trip is ;

1) Change your big notes in 7-11 or Family Mart. They will give you small changes even if you buy a 10 baht drinks, unlike most of the shops who asked for small change only.
2) Don't talk to strangers, most of them will try to scam you.
3) Don't take tuktuk or cab. Choose to walk or take public transport to your destination.

And with that, you have come to the end of my BKK trip day one post!
